We were fortunate enough to be the photographers of Catherine and Stephen's amazing wedding day at the stunning Kirkley Hall - a 17th Century country mansion near Ponteland, in the heart of the Northumberland countryside. Here's some photographs of the day, along with an insight from Catherine and Stephen about how they planned their perfect day and how it all went!
Here's a few words from Catherine and Stephen about how they planned their big day...
We only booked the wedding five months before the big day, so planned everything in a fairly short space of time. We sorted the big things first, such as venue, dress, and photographer, and then looked at the smaller things such as bridesmaid dresses, rings etc. Kirkley Hall is near to where we live – we chose it as it’s a beautiful setting for a wedding, the food was some of the best we have tasted, and the venue as a whole offered fantastic value for money.
For a theme, we wanted a really rustic country feel to our wedding day, to suit the venue. To fit with the rustic theme we had chosen, we focused the colour scheme on soft dusky pink shades and tried to keep everything else fairly neutral. The table decorations were fresh flowers in jam jars which we had decorated ourselves, and the florist we had chosen understood our vision perfectly for these, as well as the bouquets and buttonholes. Jars were placed on log slices which added to the rustic feel. Kirkley Hall hung hessian bunting for us, and our chair covers were tied with hessian and decorated with fresh gypsophaelia.
We really wanted a personal feel to our wedding so made as much as we could ourselves. This included hand made ‘save the dates’, invitations, favours, table plan, menu cards, decorating the cake, guestbook and place cards. The favours even included homemade jam!!
Seeing everything come together after such a hard few months of saving and planning really was an amazing feeling, and realising that our vision for the day had finally come into being. The ceremony for us was the biggest part of the day. All our friends and family being there with us to share such a special moment was fantastic, and everyone was so emotional.
We had been recommended a few photographers by friends but felt that they were not really our style. Having picked up some local wedding guides at wedding fayres, we went through listed local photographers and narrowed down ones we liked by visiting their websites and looking at previous weddings they had shot. Once we had met Dave and seen some albums of his work, we both felt that we got on well with him, that he understood what we wanted, and that he was the photographer for us!
Having all our family and friends there really made the day, but especially having Stephens’s ten year old son being our excellent best man, and stealing the show with his speech…there wasn’t a dry eye in the room!
