Susan and Michael chose the gorgeous Beamish Hall as the setting for their perfect day. Here's a glimpse of how it all took shape...
We asked Susan and Michael to tell us about how they planned their recent wedding day at Beamish Hall, and how their big day went...!
We researched a lot on venues online and took into consideration things like the distance for guests and ourselves to travel, whether we could have both the ceremony and reception at the venue, the look and feel of the building, photo opportunities and of course budget. We made a short list to visit but as soon as we walked into Beamish Hall, we knew it was the one! It just felt like it was giving me a big warm hug :-)
Our choice of theme evolved from the style of my wedding dress as it was a bit old style Hollywood glam. From there the theme was born. The scheme was very subtle in white and silver so my colour was introduced through the bridesmaids who were in a bold, teal colour (just because I liked it!) and this colour was carried throughout on chair swags and the wedding cake.
I’d probably say my dress chose me! It was nothing like I wanted but whilst trying other dresses on the lady in the shop brought it in for me to try. I thought it would be rude not to, and hey presto that was the one for me! I would advise any bride to be to try on different shapes and styles of dresses, and believe me, you will know the right one when you see it on you.
The grooms outfit was chosen so Michael would be comfortable - we went a little more casual with trousers and a waistcoat and open neck shirts.
My flowers were a different matter… I knew straight away what I wanted for the bridesmaids, but couldn't decide for myself! Our florist was so helpful and gave me magazines and images to look through and pick out the things that I liked and miraculously interpreted this into beautiful reality.
We went about choosing a wedding photographer by collecting leaflets from a wedding fayre, we then looked on their websites, checked reviews, and compared prices etc. One photographer kept coming up in different bridal magazines and leaflets I had so we made an appointment with Dave at Bride and Groom Wedding Photography. As soon as we met Dave, we knew he was the photographer for us as we both felt very comfortable with him and he seemed to understand exactly what we wanted for our special day. Our photos are fantastic and truly capture the day!
My favourite memory is of sitting on the top table looking at all of our friends and family, seeing all the smiles and hearing all the laughter. Amazing!!
If we could give advice to anyone planning their wedding day, we’d say don't lose sight of what the day is about! Try not to stress and enjoy your day - it really does go over far too fast! Also, decide what you would like and stick to it as best you can, it is easy to be tempted by more and more extravagances. Remember you are marrying the person you love and will be surrounded by your most precious friends and family - it really will be the best day of your life :)
